Laser hair removal for men: prices, areas, sessions and results

    Hair removal

Back, chest, beard, bikini line… More and more men are taking the plunge into laser hair removal to get rid of excessive body hair, or simply to make their daily lives more comfortable. At CtrlZ, men account for a growing proportion of our patients, and their requests extend far beyond the torso. Here’s everything you need to know before taking the plunge.

Why are more and more men choosing laser hair removal?

Men’s motivations for laser hair removal are varied and no longer taboo:

    • Everyday comfort: no more shaving or clipping on the chest, back or shoulders
    • Hygiene and freshness: less hair means less perspiration and odour, especially in the underarms and bikini area.
    • Aesthetics: a clean torso, clean beard contours or waxed legs for athletes
    • Ingrown hairs: folliculitis of the neck and bikini line is a common complaint among men who shave regularly.
    • Sports performance: cyclists, swimmers and combat sports enthusiasts appreciate smooth skin

    💡 Did you know?

Male hair is generally denser and thicker than female hair. Paradoxically, this is an advantage: thick, dark hair absorbs laser energy better and responds very well to treatment.

What areas can be treated on men?

Laser hair removal for men covers the entire body. Here are the most popular areas at CtrlZ, classified by body part:

    Face and neck

The face is a very popular area for men, with two distinct approaches.Complete beard removal (mustache, chin, cheeks, sideburns, neck) is for those who want to put an end to daily shaving for good. Beard contouring, on the other hand, creates clear boundaries at the top of the cheeks and at the bottom of the neck, without touching the beard itself. We also treat the eyebrows, nose and ears.

    Torso and abdomen

This is one of the most popular areas for male laser hair removal. Treatment of the torso can be combined with the abdomen, areolas and umbilical line for an even result. Because chest hair is generally thick and dark, it responds very well to laser treatment from the very first sessions.

    Back and shoulders

The back is probably the most difficult area to maintain alone. Laser hair removal on men’s backs is one of the most frequent requests. A distinction is made between the upper back, middle back, lower back (lumbar region), flanks and shoulders, each of which can be treated separately or together.

    Bikini line and intimate zones

Laser bikini hair removal for men is growing rapidly. From partial to full pubic hair removal, including testicles and the gluteal fold, all intimate areas can be treated discreetly and safely.

    Limbs (arms and legs)

Arms (forearms, upper arms) and legs (half-legs, thighs) are regularly requested, particularly by athletes. Hands, fingers, feet and toes can also be treated.

📋 All treatable areas on humans

    • Face – full beard, beard contours, eyebrows, nose, ears
    • Torso / abdomen – torso, pecs, areolas, belly, umbilical line
    • Back – upper back, middle, lower back, shoulders, flanks
    • Intimate areas – pubis, testicles, buttocks, gluteal cleft
    • Arms – shoulders, armpits, upper arms, forearms, hands
    • Legs – thighs, half-legs, knees, feet

How does laser hair removal work for men?

The principle is the same as for women: selective photothermolysis. The laser beam targets the hair’s melanin, transforming the energy into heat and destroying the hair bulb without damaging the skin.

At CtrlZ, we use dual-wavelength lasers (Alexandrite 755 nm and Nd-Yag 1064 nm) that adapt to all phototypes. This technology is particularly effective on thicker, more pigmented male hair.

Here are a few things you should know about men:

    • As hair density is greater, sessions may take slightly longer than for women.
    • Certain areas, such as the back or torso, cover a larger surface area, resulting in longer treatment times.
    • Laser settings are tailored to male body hair for optimum effectiveness

    ⚙️ Pre-session preparation

Shave the area to be treated the day before or the morning of your appointment. For the back, don’t panic: our team can help you shave hard-to-reach areas. Avoid sun exposure and self-tanning for 4 weeks before your session.

    💰 Good to know

    • Combine several zones in a single session to optimize your time
    • Degressive rates: the more zones you process, the lower the rate per zone.
    • Personalized quotation offered during free consultation

How many sessions for a man?

The number of sessions depends on the area treated and the density of hair growth:

    • Torso, back, shoulders: 6 to 10 sessions
    • Bikini line, underarms: 6 to 8 sessions
    • Legs, arms: 6 to 10 sessions
    • Face (beard ): 8 to 12 sessions (hormone-dependent area)

The interval between sessions is generally 6 to 8 weeks for the body and 4 to 6 weeks for the face, following the hair growth cycle.

As men’s hair is often denser, 1 or 2 extra sessions may be needed to achieve optimum results.

    ⏱️ Session duration by zone

5 to 10 min for an isolated area (eyebrows, ears). 15 to 30 min for a torso or bikini line. 30 to 45 min for a full back. Several areas can be treated in a single session.

    What results to expect (before/after)

Laser hair removal achieves an 80-95% reduction in body hair, and a 70-90% reduction on the face (hormone-dependent area).

The results are gradually becoming apparent:

    • After 1 to 2 sessions: treated hair falls out within 5 to 30 days, regrowth is already reduced
    • After 3 to 4 sessions: visible reduction of about 50%, hair becomes finer
    • After 6 to 10 sessions: almost final result with very fine, sparse residual hair

CtrlZ transparency: we’re talking about long-term reduction, not “permanent” hair removal. Certain hormone-dependent areas (face, bikini line) may require occasional maintenance sessions.

    ✓ What our patients see

    • No more back, chest or shoulder shaving
    • No more ingrown hairs on the neck and bikini line
    • Smoother, clearer skin every day
    • Time-saving hygiene routine

Men’s laser hair removal: the most popular areas in detail

Back laser hair removal for men

The back is the #1 area for men. Impossible to shave on its own, often dense with hair, the back is the perfect example of an area where the laser changes lives. Treatment covers the upper back, middle back and lower back (lumbar). Shoulders and flanks can be added for a complete result. Count €79 per zone for the back and 6 to 10 sessions for long-lasting results.

Torso laser hair removal for men

The torso is the second most popular area. Hair in this area is generally thick and dark, making it highly receptive to laser treatment. The treatment can be extended to the stomach, areolas and umbilical line for uniform results. Visible results from the very first sessions.

    Beard laser hair removal

There are two options for men.Complete beard removal (mustache, chin, cheeks, sideburns, neck) at €205 per session, for those who want to do away with shaving for good. Or beard contouring (upper contour on the cheeks, lower contour on the neck), for those who keep their beard but want clean lines without daily maintenance.

Laser hair removal for men’s bikini line

Bikini waxing for men is booming. From partial to full pubic hair removal, the treatment can include the testicles and the groove between the buttocks. The area is sensitive, but the cooling system and anesthetic cream make the treatment completely bearable. Our practitioners are trained and accustomed to treating these areas discreetly.

    🏋️ Sports: recommended areas

Cycling: jersey, thighs, legs. Swimming: torso, back, legs, armpits. Combat sports: torso, back, arms. Laser hair removal also reduces the risk of infection in the event of superficial skin wounds.

Is it painful for a man?

Sensitivity varies from one area of the body to another:

    • Less sensitive areas: back, shoulders, arms → very well tolerated, just a sensation of warmth
    • Moderate areas: torso, stomach, legs → tolerable tingling, “rubber band” type of tingling
    • More sensitive areas: bikini line, underarms, upper lip → stronger but brief sensations

Our lasers are equipped with a pulsed cold air system that cools the skin continuously during the shot. For the most sensitive areas (bikini line, face), an anesthetic cream can be prescribed by our medical team.

    🧊 Comfort tip

    • Avoid coffee and other stimulants on the day of your session
    • Anesthetic cream to be applied 1h30 beforehand for bikini line and face
    • Subsequent sessions are often less sensitive as the hair becomes thinner.

    Risks and side effects

The side effects of laser hair removal are transient and not serious:

    • Redness lasting from a few hours to 24 hours
    • Slight swelling around follicles (perifollicular edema)
    • Post-session feeling of warmth

Rarer risks (burns, pigment spots) are minimized at CtrlZ thanks to :

    • Systematic medical tele-expertise before any treatment
    • An initial laser test to assess your skin’s reaction
    • Settings adapted to each zone and your phototype
    • A 24/7 medical hotline

    🚿 Post-session care

    • Soothing cream (such as Cicaplast or Cicalfate) 2 to 3 times a day
    • Sun protection SPF 50 for 4 weeks on exposed areas
    • No intensive sports for 24 to 48 hours (perspiration = irritation)
    • No sauna, steam bath or swimming pool for 48 hours
