Facial laser hair removal: prices, areas, sessions and results

    Hair removal

Fuzz on the upper lip, hair on the chin, overly pronounced sideburns… Facial hair can become a source of daily discomfort for both men and women. Laser hair removal for the face offers a long-lasting solution to restore clear, smooth skin, without the hassle of shaving or tweezing. At CtrlZ, we treat these areas precisely and safely, every day.

How does laser hair removal work on the face?

Laser hair removal on the face is based on the same principle as for the rest of the body: selective photothermolysis. The laser beam targets the melanin contained in the hair. The absorbed energy is transformed into heat, destroying the hair bulb without damaging the surrounding skin.

However, the face has a number of special features that require specific expertise:

    • The skin is thinner and more sensitive than on the rest of the body.
    • The hairs are often finer and lighter (down), which may require special settings.
    • Some areas are hormone-dependent (chin, jawline), which may influence the number of sessions required.

At CtrlZ, our dual-wavelength lasers (Alexandrite 755 nm and Nd-Yag 1064 nm) can treat all phototypes, from the lightest to the darkest skins.

    💡 Did you know?

The laser only works on hair containing sufficient melanin. Very blond, red or white hairs are not good indications for facial laser hair removal. This is why a laser test is systematically carried out at CtrlZ during the information consultation.

What areas of the face can be removed with laser hair removal?

Laser hair removal can be used to treat all areas of the face with troublesome hair growth. Here are the most frequently requested areas:

    Upper lip

This is the most popular area for facial laser hair removal in women. The fuzz above the upper lip is often a source of complexes. Treatment is fast, taking just a few minutes per session.

    Menton

Very popular with women, especially in their thirties or in cases of hormonal imbalance. Chin hairs are often thicker and darker, making them highly receptive to laser treatment.

    Favorites and cheeks

Sideburns and cheek hair can be treated to refine facial contours. For men, these areas are part of the full beard treatment, or can be treated separately for contouring.

    Eyebrows and nose

The space between the eyebrows (the famous “unibrow”) and the small hairs on the nose can be treated very quickly with a laser.

    Neck and nape

The neck and nape of the neck are frequently combined with facial treatment to achieve a harmonious result. For men, the neck is an integral part of full beard removal. It can also be treated on its own, using the lower beard contour to neatly delimit the lower limit of the beard.

    📋 Treatable areas at CtrlZ

    • Upper lip – the most popular area for women
    • Chin – ideal for thick hormonal hair
    • Favorites, cheeks, cheekbones – to refine contours
    • Eyebrows, nose, ears – express treatment
    • Neck and nape – for a complete result
    • Beard contours (men) – sharp edges without removing the beard
    • Full beard (men) – mustache, chin, cheeks, sideburns, neck

Is facial laser hair removal painful?

As the face is a sensitive area, the question of pain always comes up. In practice, sensations vary according to the area treated:

    • Upper lip and chin: more pronounced sensations (“rubber band” tingling) because the skin is thinner.
    • Cheeks and sideburns: lighter sensations, very well tolerated
    • Eyebrows and nose: very rapid treatment, brief tingling sensation

Our lasers are equipped with a pulsed cold air system that cools the skin continuously during the session. If you are particularly sensitive, an anesthetic cream may be prescribed by our medical team.

    🧊 Comfort tip

Avoid coffee and other stimulants on the day of your session. For the upper lip, anaesthetic cream applied 1h30 before the appointment makes a real difference.

How many sessions for the face?

The number of facial laser hair removal sessions depends on the area treated and the nature of the hair growth:

    • Non-hormone-dependent areas (eyebrows, nose, ears): 4 to 8 sessions
    • Hormone-dependent areas (upper lip, chin, cheeks): 6 to 12 sessions, sometimes more

The face is a hormone-dependent area for many patients. This means that new hair can appear over time under the influence of hormones. This is why maintenance sessions are often necessary, 1 to 3 per year.

The interval between sessions is 4 to 6 weeks for the face, closer than for the legs or bikini line because the hair cycle is shorter there.

⏱️ To sum up: your background

    • 4 to 12 sessions depending on the area and type of hair growth
    • 4 to 6 weeks between each session
    • 5 to 15 minutes per session depending on the number of zones
    • 1 to 3 maintenance sessions per year (hormone-dependent areas)

    What results to expect (before/after)

Laser hair removal on the face achieves a 70-90% reduction in hair growth in the treated areas. Results on the face may be slightly less than on the legs or bikini line, due to the hormonal component.

The first results are visible from the very first sessions: treated hair naturally falls out 5 to 30 days after each session, and regrowth becomes progressively finer and more widely spaced.

CtrlZ transparency: no hair removal method is 100% permanent. On the face, the hormonal component can lead to the appearance of new hair over time, hence the importance of maintenance sessions.

    ⚠️ Paradoxical regrowth

In rare cases, the laser can stimulate the growth of fine hair on adjacent untreated areas: this is known as paradoxical regrowth. This phenomenon is more frequent on the face, particularly in dark-skinned patients. The practitioner’s expertise and the choice of appropriate laser parameters at CtrlZ help minimize this risk.

Laser hair removal on the face: what are the risks and side effects?

Common side effects after a facial session are transient and not serious:

    • Redness (erythema) lasting from a few hours to 24 hours
    • Slight swelling around follicles (perifollicular edema)
    • Sensation of heat and tingling

Rarer risks (burns, pigment spots) do exist but are minimized at CtrlZ thanks to :

    • Systematic medical tele-expertise before any treatment
    • An initial laser test to assess your skin’s reaction
    • Settings adapted to each facial zone and your phototype
    • A 24/7 medical hotline in case of need

    🚿 Post-session facial care

    • Apply a soothing cream (such as Cicaplast or Cicalfate) 2 to 3 times a day.
    • SPF 50 sun protection mandatory for 4 weeks
    • No make-up for 24 hours after the session
    • No scrubbing of treated areas for 1 week

How much does facial laser hair removal cost?

The cost of facial laser hair removal depends on the area treated. The advantage of facial laser hair removal is that the areas treated are small, making the sessions quick and the prices affordable.

    Laser hair removal for women

For women, facial laser hair removal mainly targets downy hair and hair related to hormonal fluctuations. The areas most in demand are the upper lip, chin and sideburns.

Certain situations can influence facial hair in women:

    • Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS ): causes excess hair growth, especially on the face
    • Menopause: hormonal changes can lead to thicker hair
    • Discontinuation of contraception: may temporarily modify hair growth

In these cases, laser hair removal remains effective, but additional sessions may be required. Regular follow-up with maintenance sessions is recommended.

    💬 Our advice

If you notice a sudden increase in facial hair, we recommend that you consult an endocrinologist at the same time as your laser treatment. Treating the hormonal cause will optimize your results.

Laser facial hair removal for men

Men account for a growing share of facial laser hair removal requests. Their motivations are varied:

    • Complete beard removal: for those who want to put an end to daily shaving for good. The treatment covers the moustache, chin, cheeks, sideburns and neck, for a total of €205 per session. No more irritations, cuts or morning chores.
    • Beard contours: for those who want to keep their beard but define it neatly. The upper contour (top of cheeks) and lower contour (bottom of neck) allow you to achieve neat, symmetrical boundaries on a daily basis, without touching the beard itself or removing all cheek or neck hair.
    • Density reduction: for those who want a fuller beard without eliminating it completely
    • Treatment of folliculitis (ingrown hairs): common on the neck in men who shave regularly

Since male hair is generally denser and thicker, it responds very well to laser treatment. A few extra sessions may be required, however, compared to women.

    🏥 Beard contours

At CtrlZ, beard contouring doesn’t remove all cheek or neck hair. It creates clean, precise boundaries at the top (cheeks) and bottom (neck), for a clean, symmetrical look without daily maintenance. Ideal for bearded men who are tired of redrawing their contours every morning.
